Israeli attack – Lebanon reports dead soldiers and peacekeepers injured

A massacre broke out at a checkpoint in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon. Three of the country’s soldiers were killed and three wounded in an Israeli attack, according to the Lebanese government. A convoy of the UN mission UNIFIL passing through was also hit and several peacekeepers were injured.

Austrian UN soldiers were also in the convoy but were not injured, the Defense Ministry said. At the end of October, eight federal army soldiers were slightly injured by rocket fire in the UNIFIL Naqoura camp in Lebanon. According to UNIFIL, the rocket was “probably” fired by the Lebanese Hezbollah militia “or an affiliated group.” The federal government has strongly condemned the incident.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Hezbollah militia again fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel. On Thursday evening, the Israeli military said it had registered about 120 projectiles from the neighboring country. There was, among other things, a rocket alarm in the coastal city of Haifa. Hezbollah claimed several attacks in the area of ​​the port city, as well as further attacks on northern Israel.

Despite new Israeli air strikes not far from the airport in the Lebanese capital Beirut, planes continue to land and take off. Acting Transport Minister Ali Hamiya said operations would continue as normal. Videos circulated on social media showing explosions within sight of the airport grounds. The Israeli army had asked people in neighboring neighborhoods to evacuate before the attacks.
