By ten to twenty percent – German supermarket chains are lowering their coffee prices

Date:

After butter prices, coffee prices in Germany are also falling. The supermarket chains Aldi, Kaufland and Norma lowered prices for both ground coffee and whole beans. The reason for this is that the price of coffee on the world market has fallen sharply since the autumn.

Coffee is considered a price point that customers use to orient their perception. So it should only be a matter of time before the rest of the trade lowers the price of coffee as well. The supermarket chains Aldi, Kaufland and Norma made a start in the neighboring country. Discounter Aldi announced on Friday that it has lowered the prices of its own brands Morena, Markus Kaffee, Amaroy and Tizio in more than 4,000 stores “permanently by up to 20 percent”. The coffee will be cheaper by up to one euro per 500 gram package.

Norma reduced prices almost immediately, Kaufland also announced a permanent price reduction for filter and bean coffee on its homepage. The supermarket chains Edeka, Rewe, Lidl and Penny want to follow the competition and lower prices to the same extent. Aldi’s rival Lidl announced that it would reduce the price of its private label coffee by ten to twenty percent from Tuesday. At Edeka, on the other hand, this should also apply to branded coffee.

Butter for 1.59 instead of 1.99 euros
At the beginning of February, German butter prices had already fallen. The price for the cheapest pack of branded butter of 250 grams is now 1.59 euros instead of 1.99.
