10,000 emergency shelters – WM living containers shipped to the earthquake zone

Date:

After the devastating earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border area that killed tens of thousands, the need for emergency shelter is great. The Arab Gulf state of Qatar is therefore sending residential containers that were used by football fans during the World Cup a few weeks ago to the earthquake area.

In total, up to 10,000 mobile shelters will be shipped to affected regions in Syria and Turkey. The first 306 containers were already loaded on Sunday.

In addition to sleeping accommodation, the accommodation units also have a kitchen and a toilet. In addition to the housing containers, Qatar has also sent searchers and aid to the earthquake zones.

Up to 50,000 deaths feared
Early Monday morning a week ago, the first quake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale shook the region at 2:17 a.m. (CET), followed hours later by a second strong earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale . The number of confirmed deaths is now over 35,000. UN emergency coordinator Martin Griffiths even counted up to 50,000 dead on Sunday. Thousands of people are still missing.
