The Kremlin allegedly banned Russian propagandists from reporting too often on Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin and his notorious company. It is suspected that President Vladimir Putin is becoming increasingly afraid of him.
In the war in Ukraine, the Wagner mercenaries fought side by side with the Russian army, and losses were increased with recruited prisoners. The group is best known for their brutal approach.
“Putin’s cook” too unpredictable?
The British daily The Telegraph now reports that Kremlin-loyal analyst Sergey Markov would have received the instruction directly from the government. The reason: The Wagner boss, also known as “Putin’s cook”, had become too unpredictable.
Prigozhin is said to have stated on Sunday that the Wagner group had captured a village near Bakhmut and boasted that only Wagner mercenaries had been there. According to Markov, the Kremlin now wants to limit Prigozhin’s influence.
“Dirty Methods”
Human rights activist Vladimir Osechkin said that last year Prigozhin cooperated with General Sergei Surovkin, who is considered brutal and unscrupulous, and with the President of the Russian Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. They allegedly tried to gain more control over Russia’s military operations. According to Osechkin, the FSB eventually intervened and put an end to the machinations.
“Prigozhin used dirty methods, such as publicly insulting generals, which ultimately did Surovkin no good,” Osetchkin said. Military analysts are now trying to predict the next steps of the Wagner boss. According to The New York Times, there is also speculation that Prigozhin could use his popularity to gain political clout.
