Thousands of workers in private hospitals across the country are on strike and demand appreciation. The emergency department remains secured.
The collective labor agreements of the 10,000 employees of the private hospitals are considerably worse than those of the Vienna Health Association or the hospitals of the religious order. The trade union vida has fought all the harder for an increase in six rounds of negotiations.
2000 euro minimum wage
Vain. The union sees the ball with the employers: “A monthly increase in the minimum income of 175 euros does not even compensate for inflation,” says vida chief negotiator Harald Steer. The requirement: a plus above inflation and a minimum wage of 2,000 euros.
settlement negotiations
The private clinics, in turn, emphasize that they want to increase hourly wages by 8.39 percent – above inflation. Short-time work was also offered. But the union disagreed. “We have submitted a request for agreement negotiations to the Ministry of Labor,” says chief negotiator Stefan Günther.
reality of employees
And what do the employees actually say about it? “Nobody does this job just for the money. But there is simply a lack of appreciation from employers,” says Florian Haskovec, who works as a psychiatric nurse at the Anton Proksch Institute. That is why he also supports the three-hour warning strike that will take place nationwide on Tuesday in all private clinics. “There are employees who only earn 1,600 euros gross. That is the reality of some employees,” he criticizes. Haskovec hopes that the strike will end well. “But I do not think so.” By the way: patient care is guaranteed during the strike.
