Pomeranian from Serbia – “Krone” Fake Purchase Reveals Puppy Smuggling

Date:

Advertisements on internet platforms always follow the same pattern: pictures of cute pedigree puppies with innocent beady eyes, offered for a fraction of what a reputable breeder would charge. But these animals are usually separated from their mothers much too early, carry serious diseases and come to Austria illegally with forged papers.

The animal corner “Krone” again brought to light such a case in which they made a sham purchase. In consultation with the competent veterinary service in Vienna, a meeting place was arranged with the dealer to inspect a Pomeranian puppy.

action sharp
After a few minutes, the police arrived and confronted the seller. He confessed to bringing the puppy from Serbia illegally. A check of his apartment found another three puppies and two older dogs, which were subsequently confiscated. He is now charged with multiple crimes.

Opaque
The sale of dogs is also a multimillion-dollar business in Austria – many try to evade the authorities. The government is currently working on a law that will give “hobby breeders” more responsibility. It is incomprehensible that the Austrian Dog Breeding Association (ÖKV) is against this.

stricter rules
Because especially renowned dog breeders can be happy if the black sheep is made difficult and the craft is put to rest. “It is important that the legislator takes stricter measures against dog traders and dubious breeders and that the trade in living creatures comes to an end,” says ‘Tierecke’ boss Maggie Entenfellner.
