Precarious situation in Waizenkirchen (Upper Austria): A truck driver is currently trapped in his vehicle in the “electricity prison” and awaits rescue. He had touched a power cable.
“The driver is unharmed and safe as long as he does not reach out of the car,” said the fire service, who came to the rescue. Because the power of the overhead line of the Linz Local Railway (LILO) has to be switched off. The truck driver would have hit this line with his crane and got stuck in the circuit.
The truck was thus transformed into a “Faraday cage” – who is inside is safe, the electricity flows from the outside. Now the helpers have to de-energize this “cage” and then establish a connection to ground so that the voltage can dissipate. Then the truck driver must be able to get out unharmed.
