Location Mureck in Southern Styria: Ironically, an animal rights activist found the badly injured buzzard, which is being protected. The bird was hit by several hail bullets and no rescue was possible. Who is the shooter?
Last Tuesday, Andrea Bund, the Europe Protection Officer for the management of the South West Styrian construction district, made the horrifying discovery: “As I often do in the evenings, I was walking when I saw the badly injured buzzard lying in a meadow below. a 110 kV line,” says Bund the “crown”. The exact location is mentioned in the police report as “Rohrackerweg in Eichfeld”, a connecting road between Eichfeld and Hainsdorf-Brunnsee.
The animal welfare expert immediately took the right measures: “Because there was no veterinary clinic open, I nested the bird in my house overnight, put it in the dark and gave it painkillers,” Bund reports.
Injuries were too bad
Unfortunately, all efforts were ultimately in vain: “The next day I drove to the Jösser veterinary clinic early in the morning. There the X-rays showed that the bird had shot in the abdomen, but also in the right wing and on one snout,” Bund said. “The injuries were too serious.” The animal, which is under protection, was euthanized.
Police have now launched an investigation into animal cruelty against the unknown gunman.
