Recently, a large police force including helicopters was deployed in the Völkermarkt district – the reason: an alleged robbery of a hardware store in Eberndorf. But as it turns out, it was all made up.
Around noon on Friday, February 3, two unknown perpetrators came to the Eberndorf branch – masked with FFP2 masks and hoods pulled over their heads. The men asked the cashier (23) to hand over all the money that was in the cash drawer. They then fled, according to the employee.
A large-scale search was immediately launched by the police, including a helicopter, but to no avail.
Theft is just made up
After extensive investigations and interrogations, the surprising turnaround comes: no robbery has ever been committed! “The clerk stole the money from the cash register and pretended that a robbery had been committed. The reason for this is probably a permanent lack of money,” says the state police. The 23-year-old from the Völkermarkt district has confessed.
