Two guinea pigs were left in the freezing cold in a forest in Lower Austria. Only the sharp nose of a dog could save them.
“Who does such a thing?” Not only the employees of animal shelter Dechanthof in Mistelbach are shocked. They got two guinea pigs that the owner would have just let them die. He put the two in a box and placed it in a wooded area near Gaweinstal. At freezing temperatures!
Pure coincidence
It is pure coincidence that the rodents are still alive. Your savior is a dog. Because a hiker’s four-legged friend tracked down the box and “reported” the find to his mistress. “This was the only way the guinea pigs could be brought to safety with us,” says a nurse. Because even if the animals hadn’t frozen to death, they certainly wouldn’t have survived for long. “They would have been easy prey for a fox or bird of prey,” the shelter says.
Poor condition
What the guinea pigs had to endure before that can only be guessed. Apparently, things were not going well for them in their old house. The claws are much too long, one leg is inflamed, one pad is completely ulcerated.
Now the two can relax in the Dechanthof. For the animal shelter, however, this means an extra burden on the already overburdened budget.
