Hundreds of couples got married in a massive ceremony in Mexico on Valentine’s Day, including 35 same-sex couples.
The authorities on Tuesday provided everything for the participants of the huge wedding in Nezahualcóyotl near Mexico City. Even the hairdresser and make-up were paid.
According to city officials, 35 of the 989 marriages were to same-sex couples. Since same-sex marriage was legalized in the state of Mexico three months ago, it is now legal in all 32 states.
Among the newlyweds was 24-year-old Saraí Vargas. Valentine’s Day is a very special date for her and her partner Yazmín Acosta, she said. “We also met on February 14.” In addition, same-sex marriage has only been allowed for three months in the state of Mexico, which is located around the capital Mexico City. So it was one of the first chances for her and her partner to say yes.
