In Arnoldstein in Carinthia, an off-duty police officer spotted a suspicious van on Thursday. His suspicions were actually confirmed.
At around 7:20 a.m., the officer was on a dirt road in the Tschau neighborhood of Arnoldstein when he noticed a suspicious white Ford Transit van with Czech license plates. He alerted a police patrol.
36 illegal immigrants caught
“In the cargo area of the vehicle, police met a total of 36 people, believed to be Indian and Pakistani nationals,” the police said. There were 32 men and four women, no children. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old Ukrainian citizen, was arrested and is being questioned.
The people who were dragged away are also currently being questioned. According to initial findings, the illegal entry may have originated from Slovakia. The investigation was taken over by the National Investigation Department.
