“Delete immediately!” – New fraudulent SMS threatens with judicial seizure

Date:

The Broadcasting and Telecom Regulation GmbH (RTR) warns of a new SMS scam. The property is being threatened with seizure because claims have not been settled, the authority said on Friday.

“The SMS contains a dubious link that you have to click on in order to process the supposedly outstanding claim,” said Klaus Steinmaurer, director of RTR for the Telecommunication and Post Department, according to which the new scam was reported via its own platform rufzahlenabus.at. .

Opening the SMS therefore does not cause any damage. “But you shouldn’t be tempted to give even the slightest hint about your account details via the link that was sent,” Steinmauer warned, emphasizing, “Don’t click the link, don’t make a transfer, delete the SMS immediately! And never respond to a request to install an app, it’s always malware!”

“No panacea” for detecting fraudulent text messages
According to RTR, it is usually not possible to find out who is behind the automatically sent SMS as the sender ID is fake. So tracking doesn’t work either. “Unfortunately, there is no magic formula to identify fraudulent text messages. In general, it is advisable to be suspicious and watch out for any anomalies in the SMS text, such as strange URLs, misspellings or special characters in inappropriate parts of the text, etc. These could be indications that something is not right. ” it said.

According to Steinmaurer, sender IDs of text messages and phone numbers that are being misused can be made public at rufzahlenabus.at. “This enables us to quickly identify fraudulent activities that are common and inform the public.”
