Health at risk – young tenant complains: “Mold is everywhere!”

Date:

For a young German newcomer to Salzburg, a supposed housing boom turned into a nightmare. Huge fungus and his landlady plague the resident of Salzburg.

Adham Mahmoud is furious. The 24-year-old German has just gained a foothold in Salzburg. “I was very happy to find an affordable apartment,” he recalls. But the beautiful 24 m² apartment in Maxglaner Hauptstrasse that he moved into soon turned out to be a serious health hazard.

Landlady drops the victim
“When it first got cold and wet, there was mold everywhere,” says Mahmoud. The mold infestation can also be seen everywhere at the local inspection “Krone”. Inhalation is unpleasant, the smell musty. This is also because Mahmoud has to brush the mold off the walls with chlorine spray every two weeks. Because: His landlady doesn’t seem to care about the situation. “She was here with a man who wanted to paint over the mold,” the young lodger bows his head.

Trapped in mold hell
Mahmoud has now decided to move. The tenant advice service, where the landlady is already known, advised him to do this. “It doesn’t work anymore. I only have one room and it’s starting to get moldy there. My girlfriend and I are already struggling with health problems,” the German explains the decision. But affordable housing is not easy to find on the housing market. time Mahmoud lowers the rent.” That’s a rudeness! I don’t pay 600 euros to get sick. I can’t defend myself in any other way,” he says angrily.

But the landlady does not budge. On the contrary: Mahmoud wants to throw you out the door as soon as possible. In addition, because of the reduced rent, she threatens to report him to his girlfriend for allegedly violating the registration. “It’s made up. She’s just registered here,” Mahmoud shakes his head. Why did he turn to the “Krone”? “So that the next one doesn’t fall into a trap. My previous tenant also had major problems here.”
