Because Russia is participating in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on February 23-24 in Vienna, Ukrainian MPs are boycotting the meeting. But you still want to go to Vienna. Here they want to discuss with partners how the OSCE can get out of its crisis, explained Yevheniya Kravchuk of the ruling Servant of the People party.
“We will not participate in the official events of the Parliamentary Assembly, not at all,” Kravchuk said on Ukrainian television on Sunday. The planned boycott was announced on Tuesday by the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk. However, until now it was not clear whether the Ukrainian delegation would come.
Lithuania is also absent from the conference
Lithuania has also announced that it will boycott the OSCE meeting. MPs from 20 countries had previously tried to prevent Austria from issuing visas to the Russian delegation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes the position that the country where the OSCE has its headquarters is obliged to issue the visas. At OSCE meetings in 2022, host countries Great Britain and Poland did not allow Russians.
The current meeting also coincides with the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022. Established in 1995, the OSCE is the largest European security organization. But it is blocked by Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
