A 59-year-old driver was slightly injured in an accident in the Pfänder tunnel on Monday. The man was driving towards Germany in the fast lane around 5:15 p.m. when he had to brake and skid. His vehicle was hit by a truck.
The truck driver, who drove in the tunnel tube on the right lane, had no chance to avoid the car. After capturing the 59-year-old’s vehicle, it was pressed against the tunnel wall. The driver of the car suffered only minor injuries in the accident and was taken to Bregenz State Hospital after first aid by the rescue team. The truck driver was not injured.
Due to the rescue and clearance work, the Pfändertunnel was completely closed for about an hour. Sometimes the backlog reached as far as the Dornbirn-West motorway exit. The fire brigade of Bregenz, Rieden and Lochau, ASFINAG, the rescue and emergency doctor and the highway police of Dornbirn were present.
