The message from a Russian regional politician, who published a video showing him sitting at his computer on Tuesday listening to Putin’s speech to the nation – with spaghetti on his ears – was correspondingly clear. He is now facing the consequences of the satirical protest.
“Full support, I totally agree, great achievement,” Mikhail Abdalkin, a communist deputy from the Samara region, wrote – with irony, of course – about the clip, which he posted on YouTube and on the Russian social media platform Vkontakte. A spokesman for the Communist Party called Abdalkin’s action “stupid” in an interview and announced that the incident would be handled within the party.
Party leader praises Putin
The Russian Communist Party is even considered loyal to the Kremlin. For example, party leader Gennady Zyuganov praised the “determination” of Putin’s speech. Especially in the regions of the largest country in the world by area, politicians who do not belong to the Kremlin United Russia party occasionally make critical remarks.
