Here in the livestream: memorial service in Vienna for victims of Hamas terror

Date:

The memorial event for the Israeli victims of the Hamas terror started on Wednesday evening at the Ballhausplatz in Vienna under the motto “Stand with Israel”. “We stand by Israel’s side in these difficult times,” Federal President Alexander van der said during the event, which you can follow in the livestream above.

National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (both ÖVP), Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens), Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig (SPÖ), NEOS club president Beate Meinl-Reisinger will then take the floor.

Representative of the Jewish community
Speeches were also planned from Chief Rabbi Jaron Engelmayer and other representatives of the Jewish community. The IKG had already emphasized in advance that attention must also be paid to the rapid and complete recovery of the injured and the safe return of the abductees.

“The barbarity of these Islamists is limitless”
At the start of the commemoration, IKG President Oskar Deutsch described some of the many plights of people who fell victim to the attacks: “There is no justification for terrorism. Hundreds of civilians were attacked in their homes. Many have been kidnapped and even more murdered in cold blood. Corpses have been and are being desecrated.”

“The bestiality is limitless,” Deutsch said beforehand. A conscious decision was made not to show photos or videos of the events at the event. According to Kathpress, Viennese Auxiliary Bishop Stephan Turnovszky will take part in the commemorative event for the Austrian Bishops’ Conference. He represents the President of the Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Franz Lackner and Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, both of whom are currently attending the World Synod in Rome.

A pro-Palestinian demonstration in central Vienna, planned for Wednesday evening, was banned a few hours earlier. This step is “permitted and necessary” to maintain public safety, said police chief Gerhard Pürstl. It was necessary to continue in this direction to prevent “the violent conflict in the Middle East from spreading to the streets of Vienna.”

More than 1200 deaths
Terrorists on Saturday carried out a massacre of Israeli civilians in border towns and at a music festival on behalf of Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip. According to the army, the number of deaths is over 1,200. At least 3,000 other people were injured. The number of Palestinians killed in Israeli counter-attacks in the Gaza Strip rose to at least 1,100 on Wednesday, according to Palestinian figures.
