The Russian offensive war against Ukraine separated the Austrian Elvira Bauer from her son Georgij in Russia. A visa to enter Austria was refused. The regime critic also ran the risk of being drafted into the army and had to flee to Armenia. After much back and forth with the authorities, there is now a glimmer of hope.
Elvira Bauer is an Austrian citizen with Russian roots. She lived in St. Petersburg, had a husband and a child. Her husband died early, in 2007 she met an Austrian and moved to Mühlviertel in Upper Austria. Her son Georgij, who was 19 at the time, remained in Russia. Georgy visited his mother every year, but the Russian invasion of Ukraine changed everything.
