US President Joe Biden could have an internal party competitor if he runs for the White House again. The 70-year-old writer Marianne Williamson alluded to her bid for the presidential nomination.
When asked if she was participating, she told Medill on the Hill medium, “We’re on the phone right now, but if we used FaceTime you’d see me winking.”
Williamson then explained the rationale for her application in the paper published Thursday. In the US, oligarchs, fossil fuel companies or arms manufacturers would “suck the juice out of democracy”.
Chances almost impossible
The bestselling author of self-help books wanted to sit in the White House for the Democrats as early as 2020. But she dropped out of the race for the party’s primary because of poor polling. There has been speculation in recent weeks that Williamson may want to run for the Democratic candidacy again — she fueled the rumors herself. Should Williamson officially enter the Democratic race, their chances would be nearly hopeless.
When will Biden announce the resumption?
US President Biden has not yet officially announced his intention to run again in the 2024 presidential election. However, the 80-year-old Democrat has expressed his general intention in the past. Then he should have no significant competition within his party.
Ex-President Donald Trump and former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley have so far run for the Republicans’ presidential candidacy.
