Poland has handed over the first Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine, according to the state news agency PAP. “Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will announce in Kiev on Friday that Poland has already delivered the first Leopard tanks to Ukraine,” Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform was quoted as saying by the PAP on Friday.
Morawiecki traveled to Kiev on Friday to celebrate the first anniversary of the Russian invasion. There he met his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Schmyhal and laid a wreath for the fallen soldiers of Ukraine.
At the end of January, the German government authorized partner countries to supply German-made Leopard tanks to Ukraine. A day earlier, Poland had submitted a corresponding application. At the same time, Germany had announced that it would deliver 14 Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine.
