In Lech am Arlberg, two people died on Friday evening, probably as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. They were found lifeless near a pellet heater in the basement of a hotel building. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful, confirmed Feldkirch district fire inspector Christoph Feuerstein.
The emergency services were informed around 7 p.m. of two unconscious persons in the country house of a hotel in Lech. The fire brigade arrived with a large contingent. The people who, according to Feuerstein, “belong to the house” apparently wanted to take a look at the heating system. They were rescued by firefighters using heavy breathing apparatus. CPR began immediately, “unfortunately our help came too late,” says Feuerstein.
Defective heating system?
According to Feuerstein, it is currently assumed that there is a technical defect in the pellet heating system, which has apparently caused an increased CO value. The cause of the accident must first be investigated by experts. The police started an investigation.
The accident happened in a country house that is part of a hotel but is architecturally separate, which contains both guest and staff rooms. There are currently 34 people registered there. “When we arrived, they had already left the building,” Feuerstein said. They were unharmed.
