The accident happened at around 11:15 p.m. on Rohrmooser Landstraße (L722) on Saturday. The bus from Lower Bavaria was on its way to Schladming. In the so-called Schlösselkehre, the vehicle left the road, apparently first rolled down the embankment, then rolled over several times and finally ended up on the building of a metalworking company.

A 31-year-old was killed in the accident, he had left with friends due to mess around with his upcoming marriage. Numerous other occupants of the bus – 32 people were on board – were injured, some seriously. Seven passengers and the 51-year-old bus driver suffered serious injuries. Bus recovered by truck crane
Before the rescue operation, the bus had to be secured because it was unstable. He was recovered in the early hours of the morning using a truck-mounted crane. The serious accident led to a large-scale deployment of the rescue services. More than 160 people were deployed, including firefighters, the Red Cross with paramedics, doctors, a crisis intervention team, police, mountain rescue and an emergency helicopter.
