According to the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Finance, the politician traveled to the war-torn country to discuss financial support and efforts to hold Russia accountable for its unjustified and brutal offensive war.
Meeting with Zelensky
The United States would assist the country for as long as necessary, said Yellen, who issued a statement similar to that of US President Joe Biden, who also visited Ukraine unannounced last week. In a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Yellen announced the transfer of the first $1.25 billion from the recent $9.9 billion pot.
The Ministry of Finance is responsible for imposing international sanctions and providing economic assistance.
