At the end of January, the police in Lower Austria made a surprising discovery, whereby a 54-year-old father, his wife and six children had settled – albeit illegally – in a press house with an attached cellar shaft. Since the identities of the children could not be immediately clarified, they were temporarily placed in the care of the district administration. Now the children are back with their parents.
“The family is back together,” lawyer Astrid Wagner confirms when asked. The children had previously been in the care of the district administration for between seven months and five years. While the mother was allowed to stay with the little ones, the 54-year-old only had visitation rights during the day. DNA testing confirmed the man’s paternity.
The juvenile court granted the parents’ request
According to a report by “NÖN”, the juvenile court subsequently approved the parent’s application for custody and the children were allowed to leave the clinic. Now the family lives together in one apartment. Wagner said her client requested documents for the children. There have been no registration forms or birth certificates so far.
The family would have lived in a press house with an attached cellar. On January 26, representatives of the district administration and the municipal office had checked out of the Kellergasse in response to complaints from residents. The man attacked the two with pepper spray. The employees were injured, they called the police. The 54-year-old is said to have barricaded himself with the children in the wine cellar. The building was searched by order of the public prosecutor’s office. There were the man’s 40-year-old partner and six children.
The 54-year-old reported
The 54-year-old man would have reported resisting state violence and inflicting serious bodily harm, a police spokesperson said on request on Tuesday. Administrative criminal proceedings are ongoing. One reason is that wine cellars may not be used for residential purposes.
