Corona Origins – “Most Likely”: FBI Also Sees Lab Failure

Date:

The director of the US Federal Police FBI has confirmed his agency’s previous assessment that a possible lab error in China was “highly likely” responsible for the spread of the coronavirus. “The FBI has long assumed that the origin of the pandemic is most likely a possible laboratory incident in Wuhan,” Christopher Wray said in an interview with US broadcaster Fox News published Tuesday evening (local time).

“This is about a possible leak in a Chinese government-controlled laboratory,” Wray said, adding that investigations are ongoing and many details cannot yet be revealed. However, he wanted to point out that the Chinese government had “done its best” to “obstruct and obscure” the work of the US government and foreign partners.

No unity in the US government
National Security Council communications director John Kirby made it clear Monday that there is still no consensus within the US government about the origin of the coronavirus. “There is currently no consensus in the US government on exactly how Covid came about,” he said.

“Low” degree of certainty
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Department of Energy has changed its assessment of the origin of the coronavirus and is now assuming a possible lab error — but only with a “low” degree of certainty. China had rejected this. Beijing Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said the search for the origin of the virus is a scientific matter and should not be “politicized”.

However, some US authorities still believe the virus was likely transmitted naturally. Others are indecisive. In 2021, after several months of scrutiny, there was no agreement among US intelligence agencies.
