Delicate operation – Huge weapons depot in Lower Carinthia blown up

Date:

During a medical emergency, a huge weapons depot was already exposed on Saturday in Ruden near the Völkermarkt. Three people were arrested. There were also rumors of a planned attack.

A 29-year-old Austrian is said to have lived in the remote and desolate house in Kleindiex near Ruden with two Britons aged 67 and 69. All three men were arrested on the spot. A house search ordered by the public prosecutor’s office seized a large number of registered and unregistered weapons, as well as “undefined substances”. The weapons depot was already blown up on Saturday. Emergency services had to go to the address due to a medical emergency. Then they sounded the alarm.

The “undefined substances” would be explosives. For this reason, an officer with knowledge of explosives and the state pharmacy were called in to search the premises. The building was temporarily closed by the authorities. “The mission is very delicate. The investigation is progressing well. The interrogation of those arrested is still ongoing. There is currently no danger to the population,” said police spokesman Rainer Dionisio in an interview with “Krone”. So far, 60 to 70 types of firearms – from shotguns to fully automatic weapons – have been sighted, as well as thousands of ammunition. There is currently no evidence that the guns were hoarded for criminal activity.

Mayor is concerned
“I don’t know anything specific yet. Heard about it. We hope for talks with the responsible authorities, who are still operating on a large scale at the moment,” says Mayor Rudolf Skorjanz. The large-scale operation caused a stir in the small town. The remote home is not known, so he hopes for a quick clarification.
