After an interview, the “Krone” family helps a single mother in need

Date:

Wave of helpfulness and compassion after the depressing interview with a single mother in Sunday’s “Krone”: families pay in installments, a girl gives little Stella her Nintendo Switch, readers invite mother and daughter to the family park or talk gives them both courage. The talk also has political ramifications.

Next Wednesday is International Women’s Day, on which – rightly so – attention is drawn to the unequal treatment of women. The struggle that many women face on a daily basis is often swept under the rug. Marlies Ader (23) is one of them. Single mother with a full-time job and yet there is no end to it.

The mother of a four-year-old daughter can barely afford her daily groceries, dreams of a trip to the family park and is eager to fulfill Stella’s wish for a Nintendo Switch.

Doskozil demands free kindergarten
On Sunday she told her story to Conny Bischofberger, which caused a small earthquake. Caritas posted their thanks on social networks, the governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, shared a screenshot of the story on Instagram, calling for minimum wage, free kindergarten and a maximum price for heat – all over Austria.

Girl Gives Nintendo Switch Away
On Sunday morning, countless readers from all over the country wanted to help the kindergarten teacher. Many spontaneously showed their willingness to buy little Stella her long-awaited toy. The email from a Magdalensberg family, whose children didn’t hesitate for a second and gave the girl their Nintendo Switch, was touching. “Please tell the young lady she is a wonderful and brave mother!” Write the parents.

A media manager wants to donate money so that Marlies and Stella can visit the family park, others even want to put in an annual pass. Many agreed to accept installment payments and donate whatever money was available to them. Most would like to remain anonymous and simply help unbureaucratically and directly.

“It is now high time to wake up our politicians and make them aware that honest work in Austria can no longer earn a living,” writes a “Krone” reader.

“Please Don’t Forget All the Other Women”
But there was also criticism that, for example, many pensioners had to make do with so little money. “If 900 euros is not enough to live on, then you can’t do business or you only buy luxury items,” one reader vented his anger. Klaus Schwertner strongly denies this. “Prices, record inflation and rising energy costs make it impossible for low-income people to go about their daily lives.”

Schwertner thanks the “Krone” family for the impressive support: “As Caritas, we feel day after day how much people live together and humanity. Many people who don’t have much themselves, who don’t ask if they should help, but how they can help.” Marlies Ader burst into tears yesterday when she heard the reactions to her courageous step “But please don’t forget all the other women who feel the same as I do,” she pleads. According to Caritas, there are 520,000.
