An overturned truck caused a long traffic jam in front of the Plabutsch tunnel in the early morning hours. Traffic will be affected by the accident throughout the day.
The lorry was traveling north on the Phyrn A9 motorway at around 5am when the accident occurred. For unknown reasons, the car overturned and ended up in the middle of the road.
Traffic immediately came to a halt and, according to Asfinag, it soon became clear that a quick rescue would cause complete chaos in the early morning traffic in Graz. That is why the truck has been lifted onto the first lane, so that traffic can flow smoothly in at least one lane. Just before 07:00, the traffic jam gradually began to dissolve.
Towed away in the evening
The actual recovery should only take place in the evening, so that traffic disruption remains manageable during the day. “We have decided that we will do the rescue at 9 p.m. We now drive with one lane in the tunnel all day long, so that we do not have to drive heavy traffic through the city, but that we can drive traffic through the tunnel towards Voralpenkreuz,” a spokesman for Asfinag confirms on Radio Steiermark.
The driver of the overturned truck was not injured in the accident.
