A large-scale vaccination campaign against cholera has started in the earthquake zone in northwestern Syria. A total of 1.7 million vaccine doses will be administered. Hurry up because Ramadan is approaching.
Over the next ten days, 1,400 teams want to visit as many households as possible and some 90,000 people who were left homeless by the earthquake a month ago (see video above) and are still camping in schools, markets and camps.
Hurry up, Ramadan is coming
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is not much time for vaccination because the fasting month of Ramadan is about to begin. The cholera vaccine is taken, but during Ramadan most of the Muslim population does not eat between sunrise and sunset.
According to the WHO, more than two million people are at risk of infection because they do not have clean drinking water and the sewage system does not work properly. Syria reported a cholera outbreak in the region last September.
