The heavy gusts of wind that have been raging over northern Austria, especially since the night and the morning hours, have caused the first damage. The fire brigade was called again. However, the strongest wind gust was measured in Lower Austria…
It was mainly trees that could no longer withstand the force of the sometimes violent gusts of wind in Upper Austria and therefore blocked roads, among other things. In Kematen am Innbach this led to an accident involving three vehicles. On the Feuerkogel, the morning’s strongest wind gust just missed hurricane strength, it was reported Geosphere Austria. A speed of 118 km/h was measured.
At the Jauerling in Lower Austria, however, it could be a bit more. An impressive outlier was measured there: 153 km/h was recorded there in the morning around 6:20 am.
Wind replenishment from Friday
The storm kept the helpers in suspense for a few more hours before the gusts slowly abated during the afternoon. However, windy replenishment follows on Friday. The wind but in the evenings considerably refreshed with a front in Vorarlberg. Saturday will also bring wind, initially blowing gale-forcely from the west in the northern half, but decreasing rapidly in the west and not until the afternoon in the east.
