Son probably dead too – Gaza Strip: Another hostage body found

Date:

According to Israel, around 100 hostages are still being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Only a few of them are said to still be alive. According to the army, another body has now been recovered in the Gaza Strip.

A military spokesman said it was an Arab Israeli, 53 years old. There were also finds of his son, who had also been kidnapped, raising “serious concerns” about his life. The young man is reportedly 22 years old. Until now in Israel it was believed that father and son were still alive.

Body discovered in tunnel
The father’s body was found on Tuesday in a tunnel in the Rafah area. The military said he was killed in captivity. Both were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, during the Hamas massacre. Two of the 53-year-old’s other children were also kidnapped at the time. The teenagers were released in November 2023 as part of a deal between Hamas and Israel.

The four were working in a kibbutz near the Gaza border during the terrorist attack. The family belongs to a Bedouin community. Arabs make up about 20 percent of Israel’s nearly ten million inhabitants. The Bedouins, in turn, belong to the Arab minority in Israel; their number is estimated at around 250,000 nationally. Many of them serve in the Israeli army.

Netanyahu expresses his condolences to his family members
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his condolences to the families over “the bitter news,” his office said. He emphasized that Israel had brought the two kidnapped young relatives home and also wanted to retrieve the two men. President Yitzhak Herzog spoke of a “huge tragedy” for the family, who were also deeply concerned about the fate of the murdered man’s son. ‘Our hostages are in immediate danger. “We must continue to do everything possible to urgently bring back 99 of our brothers and sisters,” Herzog said.

In total, Palestinian terrorists kidnapped more than 250 people from Israel to the coastal area on October 7, 2023. The army has recovered the bodies of hostages in the Gaza Strip several times.
