The Mercedes Benz plant in Vitoria-Gasteiz will stop production on March 17 due to the “high accumulation” of inventories in the markets where its vehicles are sold.

This shutdown of activity is the first to take place this year at the Álava factory, the largest in the Basque Country with 5,000 employees.

The suspension of the activity was communicated to the staff this Thursday and will be settled in the agreed flexibility pocket in the collective labor agreement.

In December last year, it had to halt its activity for a week due to the high accumulation of stocks in the markets.

This shutdown, along with the shutdowns it previously had to make due to lack of supplies, led the company to revise its 2022 production forecast to 141,781 vans.
