A 39-year-old suspect lured a woman of the same age from Hungary to Vienna with false promises and wanted to force her into illegal prostitution, even under threat. Witnesses saw the scenes that played out on Tuesday evening and came to the aid of the victim. The alleged perpetrator then fled. However, that ended at the border with Hungary.
The Hungarian and his 39-year-old compatriot met in Hungary. According to police, the man then lured the prostitute to Vienna by making false promises and assuring her that he could help her obtain a “green card” to practice legal prostitution.
“Threatened With Murder”
But on Tuesday evening he suddenly demanded that she do illegal sex work for him in front of a red-light bar in Leopoldstadt, the angry woman told witnesses. “Moreover, he threatened to kill her if she did not go to the red light district,” the police said.
The witnesses came to the aid of the 39-year-old, after which the Hungarian took off by car. The police immediately started a search. Burgenland officials removed the man from traffic at the Nickelsdorf border crossing on Wednesday evening. The handcuffs still clicked into place in front of him. During the interrogation in Vienna, the suspect did not confess. The Vienna Criminal Investigation Department, which investigates human trafficking, took over the investigation. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Vienna ordered the screening in general.
