After three mysterious arson attacks in February in the Tyrolean Kundl, the police have arrested a resident. The suspicion against the 56-year-old continues. The complaint against the pre-trial detention has therefore now been rejected.
It is not known where the rumor came from. But last week there was a rumor in Kundl that the arrested suspected local arsonist (56) was free again. Concern spread, especially among his victims.
The exact opposite is true, as Hansjörg Mayr, spokesman for the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office, confirmed to “Krone”: “The Higher Regional Court ruled on the complaint on Friday. The man must remain in custody.” Which means: The suspicions against Kundler have not yet vanished into thin air.
Tracks covered, then caught by the police
As reported, the 56-year-old was caught on the night of February 26, shortly after the garage fire on Austrasse. “He behaved suspiciously and wanted to hide traces,” says Katja Tersch, head of the Tyrolean criminal investigation department. Footprints would have pointed to the suspect, among other things.
Three fires in February
There were three fires in Kundl in February alone: the fire in the garage was preceded by a burnt-down washroom (February 8) and the destruction of the local rural youth carnival car (February 15). The times of the crimes were remarkably similar: between 2:30 am and 3:30 am. Other series of fires in Kundl – 2012 and 2018 – have not yet been cleared up. The presumption of innocence continues to apply to the suspect.
