Rome, March 28 (EFE) – The 157 migrants rescued by the Ocean Viking, a non-governmental organization from the SOS Méditerranée in the central Mediterranean, will arrive in the port of Augusta, Sicily, in the south, on Monday night. Organization in social networks.
This was allowed by the Italian authorities after receiving a request from the port from a humanitarian organization welcoming the surviving migrants and the corpse they were able to remove from the water on the ship.
Upon arrival at the port, on Monday afternoon, as planned, the adults with juveniles will leave for a quarantine vessel after undergoing a health check, while the accompanying juveniles will be taken to reception centers.
Survivors “are debilitated by seasickness and physical and emotional damage from the horrific experience of disaster at sea, so all of them should be able to begin recovery on land,” the organization said in a statement posted on social media.
The ship rescued nearly 160 migrants in the Mediterranean on the night of March 25, including several minors, in adverse weather conditions that lasted about 5 hours as a result of a “difficult” operation.
The emigrants were sailing in a crowded inflatable boat. Two emigrants were killed, but the Viking of the ocean was only able to save a lifeless body due to the harsh conditions of the sea.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 6544 emigrants arrived in Italy this year, which is 6334 in the same period last year.
