On Wednesday evening, the Graz professional fire brigade was alerted to a room fire in the Albrechtgasse. A heat lamp may have set the mattress on fire in the bedroom, but the resident was able to escape outside.
It was shortly after midnight when a fire broke out on the first floor of an apartment near Graz’s city hall. The professional fire brigade of Graz was immediately alerted to the Albrechtgasse. Fortunately, the owner of the apartment was able to save himself from the flames.
When the fire brigade arrived, thick smoke was already coming from the windows. You were given access to the bedroom wearing heavy respiratory protection. The stairwell was kept smoke-free and the fire room was ventilated using two powerful fans.
After about an hour and a half, the 25 men and six fire engines were able to leave. The exact cause of the fire is still being determined by the police; the heat lamp probably lit the bed mattress. Fortunately, no one was injured: the resident was cared for by the Red Cross.
