On Wednesday afternoon there was a major alarm in the Murpark shopping center in Graz. As reported, a young lady called the police 911 and told of men walking through the mall with guns. Initially, the police assumed it was a murder…
The man was carrying a long pistol and a handgun, the caller, who was at the mall himself, told police. In the first step, the police actually assumed an “amok situation” and went to the Murpark with all their weapons. The center was immediately evacuated and the search for the alleged armed man began.
Headphones confused with guns?
During the intensive search, the officers actually discovered the man who had described the young woman – whose age the police have now corrected to 16 instead of 18 – on the emergency call. It was a 41-year-old man from Graz who only carried headphones in his backpack! In addition, the suspect initially agreed to an inspection of his apartment. Nothing dangerous was found there either.
Now the question arises as to how the 16-year-old, who had provided false personal information, arrived at these claims. Was it a nasty joke that would probably be expensive? Or did she actually mistake the headphones for guns? Further investigations are ongoing in this regard.
