A 30-year-old woman, who is said to have massively shaken her baby on at least two occasions, has been sentenced to three years in prison – one year unconditionally – for grievous bodily harm during her trial at the Vienna Criminal Court. The public prosecutor, who also wanted to see the suspect convicted of attempted murder, appealed against the verdict.
The suspect was accused of shaking the four-month-old baby so violently in two attacks in July 2022 that the girl’s life could only be saved by treatment in intensive care.
At her trial, the defendant confessed to shaking the child, but vehemently denied any intent to kill.
