Family wiped out – 14-year-old boy suspected of eight murders

Date:

He is said to have killed eight people: a fourteen-year-old boy suspected of murdering an entire family has now been arrested in Mexico.

The murders, believed to be related to drug-related crimes, took place near the capital Mexico City.

The 14-year-old was nicknamed “El Chapito” (“little Chapo”) – in reference to famous ex-cartel boss Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who was imprisoned in the US.

The boy allegedly approached a family on a motorcycle in Chimalhuacan, a poor suburb of the capital, and opened fire on them.

Victims had a house party
The victims were having a house party when the attack broke out, injuring five adults and two children. Neither the motive nor the identity of the young killer have been released.

Mexico has been suffering from a wave of violence for years. Last year, 31,936 murders were registered in the Latin American country with a population of 126 million. Numerous drug cartels and other criminal groups vie for control of areas of influence and smuggling routes. They often have ties to corrupt politicians and security forces. Most murders are never solved.
