“Gold, gold”: With these words, a robber Friday night asked an employee of a jeweler in Vienna-Mariahilf to open the display cases for him. The curious thing: he himself had previously tried to hit the display cases with a hammer, but without success.
Just before 6:30 p.m., the perpetrator could no longer use his hammer in the heavily secured display cases. So he probably had no choice but to ask the employee to open the display case for him. He then grabbed the jewelry from three of the display cases and fled.
Tripped on the stairs while escaping
An alert witness heard the robbery and ran after the robber to stop him. Shortly afterwards, the robber’s series of mishaps continued: he tripped over a flight of stairs and lost part of the loot. These documents were later confiscated by the police. With the rest, however, he escaped unnoticed.
A direct search turned up nothing. The investigation is ongoing. Fortunately, no one was injured in the robbery.
