Could free themselves – touring skiers in Tyrol were swept away by a patch of snow

Date:

Two tourers in Kühtai, Tyrol, were very lucky on Friday: the local duo was hit by an avalanche and swept away. The men managed to free themselves from the snow masses.

The two local residents, aged 56 and 63, climbed out of Kühtai in the open area in the late morning towards the Gaiskogel. After reaching their destination, they rode back to the valley together. It then happened at an altitude of about 2,600 meters: a slab of snow broke loose above the men!

Duo escaped with a fright
“The avalanche carried away both ski tourers. They were partially buried, but were able to free themselves from the snow masses on their own,” the police said. The men were unharmed.

On the other hand, an avalanche in Serfaus in the Tyrolean district of Landeck ended tragically on Friday. A 20-year-old Dutch woman was buried by an avalanche and could only be found dead.
