The Amazon company on Monday announced to its employees a new round of layoffs that will affect 9,000 workers “in the coming weeks”.
These cuts build on Amazon’s previously announced job cuts that began last November and continued into January, laying off more than 18,000 employees across its hardware and services, human resources and retail teams.
“It was a difficult decision, but we believe this is best for the company in the long term,” the general manager said Monday. Andy Jassiein a post shared first with her associates and then in a statement.
Jassy has indicated that the areas this new cut will impact are: Amazon Web Services (AWS), People Experience and Technology Solutions (PXT), the advertising division and the Twitch streaming channel.
Amazon, Second company with the largest number of employees in the United States after the Walmart stores, it had 1,540,000 employees in 2022, a figure that is 4.7% less than that of 2021.
