A strong earthquake shook the Hindu Kush region of Central Asia on Tuesday evening. According to the European Seismological Survey EMSC, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4. The epicenter was therefore near the city of Faizabad in northern Afghanistan. The tremors were felt as far as Islamabad in Pakistan and New Delhi in India.
“People ran out of their homes and recited verses from the Quran,” said an AFP reporter from the northern Pakistani city of Rawalpindi. There were similar reports from the Pakistani capital of Islamabad and the Indian capital of New Delhi.
Numerous users declared on social media that they felt the “massive earthquake” and took to the streets for their safety.
There is currently no information on damage or injuries.
