75-year-old convicted – dispute over flower bulbs: pensioner stalks neighbours

Date:

There’s nothing in court that doesn’t exist, as this Klagenfurt regional court trial shows: A pensioner is charged with a slew of crimes – from stalking to slander – for following his neighbor who was a gardener. It all started with a flower bulb.

Stalking, or persistent persecution, was only criminalized a few years ago to prevent ex-partners from harassing their once loved ones after the relationship has ended and interfering in their daily lives. However, it is extremely unusual for such a crime to be committed by neighbors who are actually strangers. Nevertheless, his strange actions brought a previously flawless 75-year-old to the dock. How could that happen?
