After the violent excesses in many Carinthian schools increase, teachers demand more support for the children. But the education director of Carinthia, Isabella Penz, is silent. Politics is also on the dive station.
A seven-year-old who massively attacks and injures classmates. A high school rape allegation. A dozen bomb threats in a few days. There is a fire in many Carinthian schools! As reported, teacher representatives are therefore taking to the barricades and urgently demanding more resources to support children – through social workers, school psychologists, therapy offers. “Sometimes we feel let down by the education department,” was the tenor of the teachers. Among other things, slow responses and incorrect suspension management are criticized. “Any request for suspension from a child is a cry for help – from us and the child involved!”
Director of Education remains silent
How does director of education Isabella Penz react to this? “No comment,” she immediately blocks a “Krone” conversation. But there are specific demands and accusations from teachers and school principals, such as the fact that often no one in the education department is available, even in urgent cases? Penz: “No comment.”
Politicians do it like the director of education
So far, politicians have also been at the diving station on this subject – with the exception of Team Carinthia boss Gerhard Köfer, who encourages the expansion of psychosocial support services: “Many students need help and direct contacts more urgently than ever.”
