Caught a gang of six burglars, caught an unscrupulous money thief and stopped a Syrian smuggler: four Burgenlanders who showed courage and moral courage in everyday life were brought before the curtain by the police and awarded the Security Merit Award.
Niki Maslowski and Sandro Schendl were in the right place at the right time. On December 17, 2021, they noticed a car in Oberwart with a Linz license plate, from which four occupants had hurriedly got out. The car sped away. When police sirens were heard and radio vehicles flashed blue lights, the two men responded with presence of mind.
smuggler in custody
“It was immediately clear to us that it had to be a towing vehicle,” said the two. They reported the matter by calling 911. Out of curiosity, they drove into a parking garage and discovered the car they were looking for in the furthest corner. Again the clever amateur detectives called 911. They waited until the alerted police arrived and instructed the officials. The 20-year-old smuggler from Syria was arrested shortly afterwards. The Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office has ordered pre-trial detention.
37 burglaries cleared
Master baker Erwin Mayer observed two suspects with binoculars on June 13, 2022 at around 11:15 p.m. in Mogersdorf. The observant witness alerted the police and led the investigating officers to the perpetrator’s parked vehicle. In the car were not only stolen items from other coups, but also the identity cards of the criminals.
At the same time, the suspects committed a burglary in Mogersdorf, which was only discovered in the morning hours. Thanks to the courageous intervention of Erwin Mayer, the police were finally able to put an end to a group of six Hungarian criminals. The gang had proven 37 burglaries, most of which were committed in the Jennersdorf district. The target was carports and garages of single-family homes. Booty: ride-on mowers, mopeds and e-bikes.
thief recognized
A good memory characterizes Philipp Moser. On June 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m., he reported the emergency call to the central government control center because he had recognized a suspect. The man allegedly stole a wallet at a grocery store in Illmitz at 9:50 a.m. on May 13 and started wandering through the branch again. The police quickly arrived.
Initially, the suspect denied everything. However, the items seized in his car, such as his wallet, ATMs and cash, convicted him of being a thief. Agents from the Apetlon police station were then able to prove that the criminal had also stolen a wallet in a branch in Frauenkirchen. The perpetrator used the debit card it contained to shop at a tobacconist’s shop in St. Andrä and at a grocery store in Illmitz. To arrest!
Praise from police chief
“Safety is particularly important for the citizens of Burgenland. Our federal state has been one of the safest in Austria for decades with a clearance rate of around 50 percent. However, this can only be achieved through close cooperation between citizens and the police,” he praises Landespolice director Martin Huber.
