An 82-year-old pensioner was hit by a tram in the center of Vienna around 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening and was seriously injured. Police say the man wanted to cross the street at Burgring and may have overlooked the tram. A collision followed.
The 82-year-old ended up with his leg under the tram in the accident and the professional fire brigade had to free him. The professional rescue service Vienna then took over the emergency medical care of the seriously injured. The pensioner was taken to a hospital trauma room with life-threatening injuries.
The ring road in the area had to be closed for about an hour and traffic was diverted during this time.
