Training is back on: from 27 to 31 March, Austrian Eurofighter pilots will be flying air-to-ground at the Allentsteig military training area in Lower Austria. As part of a training partnership with Germany, Eurofighters from Tactical Air Force Squadron 74 of the German Air Force from Neuburg an der Donau are also taking part.
The flights for the shooting training always take place during the week, training only takes place during the day. For the training of the Eurofighter pilots, the continuous and safe use of the on-board gun – also during live firing – is important and necessary.
For this reason the 27mm gun is used in the exercise. There are two Austrian and a maximum of four German Eurofighters. During the exercise there will be no intermediate stops of German Eurofighters in Austria.
Collaboration with the German Air Force
There has been intensive cooperation in various fields between the German and Austrian air forces for decades. This was further intensified after the introduction of the Eurofighter weapon system.
In the context of this cooperation, in addition to the exchange of experiences, a further deepening of skills is planned. In return, the Austrian Eurofighter pilots complete an air-to-air shootout over the open sea in Germany.
