Two cars in Friesach, Carinthia, may have slightly brushed each other with their wing mirrors, but then a driver claimed his car’s door and fender were damaged and demanded money. There is a suspicion of attempted fraud. Police are hoping for information about similar incidents.
Saturday morning at 5:45 a.m., a driver (18) was driving her car on Hemmaweg in Friesach when a car approached her and the two wing mirrors touched. The 18-year-old saw significant damage to the door and fender of the other car, which could not have been caused by the current accident.
She exchanged phone numbers with the unknown driver because he wanted to inspect the damage in daylight.
The driver demanded 500 euros
He later called the woman and demanded 500 euros for the damage to the car door and fender and sent her photos of that as well.
The 18-year-old and her mother grew suspicious and told the stranger they wanted to call the police. The driver then spoke about his all-risk insurance and that he would not be making any more claims.
